Visiting Author:
Alice McGinty will be visiting Cherokee on October 17th thanks to a generous grant provided by the Spirit of 67. Ms. McGinty has written over 40 books for children, both fiction and non-fiction, for which she has won various awards, including the Illinois Reading Council's 2017 Prairie State Award for Excellence in Writing for Children. Families are able to purchase an autographed copy of one of her books at a discounted rate.

Completed order forms are due to Cherokee by Sept 28th along with a check made payable to "District 67 APT". You will need to complete one form per student since the books are personalized.

This school year, Cherokee students will enjoy the following fine arts assemblies. These presentations are organized by the APT and funded through a generous grant from The Spirit of 67 Foundation. Thanks to our Fine Arts Co-Chairs, Mike Borkowski and Amy Wang Douglas for coordinating these events at Cherokee.

Tsukasa Taiko presents "Taiko Legacy" -- January 21, 2015
Tsukasa Taiko offers taiko drum instruction, education, and performances as part of its mission to preserve, develop, and pass on the traditional concepts of Japanese art as a cultural legacy, and to utilize these concepts in expanding and evolving the taiko art form. As an active performing group, Tsukasa presents over fifty shows a year, both locally and internationally. A professional staff of artists visit schools and include taiko (drums), shamisen (lute) and shinobue (Japanese flute). A group of 3-8 musicians will visit the school and perform in addition to explaining the history and importance of this music.
Theatrebam: School House Rock Live! -- April 2015
Theatrebam is a Chicago-based not-for-profit theatre company that was founded by theatre professionals, educators and alumni from Northwestern University and the Theatre School of DePaul University in 1992. The group's mission is to present dynamic theatre productions that attract and engage new and young audiences through the creation of new work, reinterpretation of familiar texts, and building of educational programs. School House Rock Live! is a musical play based on the Emmy Award-winning TV cartoon series and teaches math, history, science and grammar with such songs as "Conjunction Junction," "I'm Just a Bill," "Interplanet Janet," and "Interjections!."
